Frequently asked questions
Extra information about the branding service
What exactly do I get at the end of the project?
You will receive a complete toolkit to launch your brand. This includes all variations of your logo in every file format you will ever need (for both print and digital use), your defined colour palettes, your brand typography, and a comprehensive Brand Guidelines document to keep everything consistent.
If you have any special requests for files or anything, we will also do our best to accommodate those in the deliverables too.
How long does a branding project take?
Typically, a full brand identity project takes between 3 to 6 weeks. This gives us the necessary time to research your industry, develop strong initial concepts, and refine the chosen route until it is perfect.
If you have a specific deadline, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate it.
What is a Brand Guidelines document?
Think of the Brand Guidelines as the rulebook for your visual identity. It is a PDF document that outlines exactly how your logo, colours, and fonts should (and shouldn't) be used. It ensures that whether you are handing files to someone else (like a web developer, a sign maker, or a social media manager), your brand always looks consistent and professional.
Obviously, at the end of the project it is all yours to do with how you like though - the guidelines are there to help to guard against common bad practices both online and in print.
Do you only design for new businesses, or can you refresh my existing brand?
We do both! We love building new brands from the ground up, but we are equally experienced in handling brand "evolutions" or "refreshes".
If your current logo is looking a bit tired or your business has outgrown its original look, we can modernise and elevate your identity without losing your established brand equity.
Who owns the copyright to the final designs?
You do.
Once the project is complete, and the final invoice is paid, full ownership and copyright of the final, agreed-upon brand identity are transferred entirely to you. We will likely keep the files created on file in case you need them again in future, but they are yours to use and do with however you prefer.
How many revisions do I get?
For reference here, a "round of refinement", or a revision, is an agreed-upon list of changes where you can have a say on what you like/dislike/would like changing.
Our standard branding process includes up to two rounds of refinement on your chosen concept - one when we have the rough mockups and colour palettes first collated together, and one after the main files are created. We find this is the perfect amount of collaboration to tweak colours, adjust typography, and polish the design until you are completely thrilled with the result.
From our experience, it is more efficient to limit the feedback to a couple of opportunities, as this helps prevent the "little to the left, little to the right" issues that can delay a project by a fair bit. We have also found that in the past, when a client knows they have to get all of their feedback together one list at a time, they have found it less time-consuming and they have found that they've been more focused on finding the feedback themselves!
What is a "vector logo"? I have been asked for one on occasion in the past
If you have ever tried to make an image larger and it turned into a blurry, blocky mess, you have experienced the limitation of the wrong file type. When it comes to your brand, understanding the difference between raster and vector files is crucial.
Raster images (e.g. JPEG, PNG, GIF) are images made up of pixels that can not be scaled up without issues. Vector files (e.g SVG, EPS, AI) are made up of plot points and curves, so they can be scaled up infinitely.
For logos or brand graphics, it is good to have raster images available for quick use, but you must also make sure to have vector versions available so that they can be used without restriction.
