About this project

The Challenge

Carberrys Cafe, a local favourite in Norwich’s historic Tombland, needed a stronger online presence. They were looking for a way to improve their search visibility (SEO) and make it easier for potential customers to find them, without needing to constantly manage a complex website.

The Strategy

The brief was straightforward: showcase their food and drink, provide clear location details, and highlight their services and hours. Because the cafe’s information only changes a few times a year, we recommended a lightweight, custom-coded site rather than a heavy Content Management System (like WordPress). True to our transparency-first approach, we ensure clients only pay for the tech they actually need – in this case, a streamlined build was the perfect, cost-effective solution to keep the site fast and secure.

The Design & Execution

To create a seamless experience between their physical storefront and their website, we built the design around their established branding, pairing their signature deep-blue with the gold from their logo.
Instead of requiring the client to manually update website photos, we integrated a live Instagram feed. This smart integration keeps the website looking fresh and engaging with their latest social media posts, all on autopilot.

The Result

A beautiful, highly functional website that works behind the scenes to grow the business. Since the launch, Carberrys Cafe has seen a significant increase in direct inquiries for their afternoon tea packages and event space, successfully turning online searchers into real-world customers.

About this project

The Challenge

Norfolk Bathrooms and Boilers Ltd came to us needing a complete digital starting point. They required a professional online presence to capture local leads, but with a strict requirement: they wanted full control to update the website themselves as their business grew and more photos from jobs were available. They also had a rough concept for a logo featuring a gas flame, but it needed to be refined into a professional, usable asset.

The Strategy

To give them the autonomy they asked for, we built the website using WordPress, with only the necessary tooling available to make creating and updating within the CMS as bulletproof as possible. This provided them with an intuitive dashboard to easily edit text and swap out images without needing to touch a single line of code or rely on us for minor updates. To ensure they were visible to local customers right out of the gate, we also set up their Google Business Profile and foundational social media channels. With those, we linked them to the website build as an Instagram feed and social links, which helps with Google authenticity checks.

The Design & Execution

A local trades business needs branding that looks just as sharp on the side of a van as it does on a mobile screen. We took their original gas flame concept and completely vectorised it in Affinity. By delivering true vector files (EPS, SVG), we ensured their new logo could scale to any size without losing quality.

For the website itself, we let the new branding take centre-stage. We opted for a clean, minimal design that feels modern and trustworthy, steering clear of clutter so potential customers can easily find exactly what they are looking for. Blue accents reinforce the ‘gas flame’ colouring, while also harking to the bathroom installations side of the business too.

The Result

A holistic, easy-to-manage digital toolkit. Norfolk Bathrooms & Boilers Ltd walked away with a polished, scalable brand identity, a robust WordPress website they can confidently update themselves, and the local search foundations required to drive new inquiries.

About this project

The Challenge

Up-and-coming author Richard Hemming needed a cover for his debut book, Beyond The Chrysalis. The narrative of the short stories within explore dark themes, gallows humor, and a pervasive sense of uncertainty. The challenge was capturing this complex atmospheric blend in a single image. Richard wanted a cover that felt distinctly uneasy and faceless, with a strong preference for striking geometric elements, while avoiding cliché genre tropes.

The Strategy

A great book cover needs to communicate the story’s exact mood in a split second. Instead of relying on standard stock imagery or generic digital assets, we chose a bespoke, hands-on approach. We knew that to capture the true feeling of structural unease and isolation, we needed to source original photography that grounded these abstract themes in physical reality.

The Design & Execution

We took the project out of the studio and headed to the nearby University of East Anglia (UEA) campus. To represent the book’s faceless personification of Death, we photographed Antony Gormley’s iconic, isolated statues. We then framed this haunting imagery against the stark, imposing lines of Sir Denys Lasdun’s brutalist architecture. This unique pairing provided exactly what the brief called for: a chilling, anonymous focal point surrounded by cold, geometric structure. With the darkness against the red colour scheme, it portrays possible danger and creates a more intense feeling than if it were another colour. The golden text offers contrast without detracting too much from the main visuals, with the brutalist architecture used in the background as a subtle break from the darkness – almost signifying an unknown journey.

The Result

A highly original, atmospheric book cover that perfectly matches the tone of the writing inside. By stepping away from the desk to capture bespoke local photography, we delivered a compelling, tailor-made visual identity that grabs the reader’s attention and perfectly sets the stage for the story.

About this project

The Challenge

Anne Marie Pet Portraits came to us with an existing website that looked fine on the surface but was struggling under the hood. Handed over from a previous creator, the site was weighed down by redundant scripts and poor coding practices. The client needed a technical overhaul to fix these hidden issues, but it was crucial not to lose the visual identity they had already established. Furthermore, they needed reliable, ongoing support to keep their artwork galleries regularly updated.

The Strategy

Our approach here was surgical. Instead of pushing for a costly, from-scratch redesign, we focused on refactoring what was there. True to our belief in lightweight, efficient websites, our strategy was to strip away the digital bloat and bad structural habits left by the previous developer, leaving behind a clean, fast foundation that respected the original design.

The Design & Execution

While we didn’t design the original layout, we matched the aesthetic where we could during the structural rework. We stepped in to create fresh digital assets that integrated seamlessly with the existing look and feel, ensuring the transition was invisible to the user but massive for site performance.

To keep the website current moving forward, we set up a straightforward retainer agreement. Rather than the client struggling to upload new images themselves, we handle the ongoing management and updating of her portrait galleries. The updates are rare enough that a rebuild into a CMS wasn’t deemed appropriate.

The Result

A website that looks exactly as the client intended, but now runs with professional-grade performance and stability. By cleaning up the code and taking over the ongoing gallery updates, we removed the technical friction from Anne Marie’s business, allowing her to focus entirely on creating beautiful art while we handle the digital heavy lifting.
